• Right-click My Computer or Computer in Windows 7 and select Properties or Advanced System Properties.
• Click the System Restore tab.
• Choose Configure, then select Turn Off System Restore On All Drives, click OK and then reboot.
• Open the System Properties tab, uncheck: Turn off System Restore.
  This should reboot the application for you.

Solution 2: Confirm System Restore is Running

• Open the Run command box and then type services.msc
• Search the Services, and then click System Restore Services.
• If the Status of System Restore Service is not Started, Right click and choose Start.

Check the Net Start
Open a Command Prompt window. To do this, follow these steps: 1.Open the Run command box, type CMD and press Enter.
2.Type Net Start at the command prompt to establish whether the System Restore Service is functioning.

Solution 3: Create More Disk Space for System Restore

To do this, follow these steps:
1.Open the Run command box, type diskmgmt.msc and then press Enter. Make sure the drives system restore is using have more than 50MB free. The ideal is to have more than 200MB free on the drives its monitoring.

Solution 4: Check System Restore for errors

To do this, follow these steps:

• Click Start, click Run, type eventvwr.msc /s in the Open box, and then press Enter.
• Click the System category.
• Click the Source tab to sort by name, and then look for sr or srservice Double-click each of these services, and then evaluate the event description for any indication of the cause of the problem.

STEP 1: CREATE A RESTORE POINT

• Click the Windows’ Orb
• Click the Control Panel
• In the Control Panel menu, find System and Maintenance
• Under System and Maintenance, choose Back Up Your Computer
• Under Tasks, Choose Create a restore point or change settings.
• Click Create and name your restore point.

STEP 2: CHOOSE A RESTORE POINT

If you have followed the above steps, your new restore point has been added to the list available for restore. In addition to your created restore point, there will be one that has be created by default.

• Under System Protection(Above Steps 1-6, open this menu)
• Choose from this list of restore points.
• Click the check box for the chosen restore point.
• Click System Restore.

STEP 3: RESTORE YOUR SYSTEM

• Click Advanced Settings tab. Under Current Mode, make sure it has a DMA Mode Setting. If so, you are O.K.
• IF you see PIO, you need to uninstall driver and reboot.
• Remove it by clicking the driver tab and choose Uninstall. Your system will reinstall the driver after Windows loads and restore the Ultra DMA status.

This should solve your choppy audio problems and give you smoother playback. If this hasn’t solved the problem, you may want to consider the problem being related to other issues like too many background problems.
